What is the best security option for email and on line purchasing?

I want to protect myself from fraud and misuse. I use my computer for research and private use. I have received several offers from firms who provide security software. What is the best security option.|||AVG Anti-virus, AdAware anti-spyware, XP built-in firewall if you're on Windows XP, keep up to date with all the patches and updates at www.microsoft.com, don't open dodgy-looking emails from people you don't know (and if someone you do know unexpectedly sends you an attachment, email them to ask what it is and why they sent it, it could be a spam/virus trick using their name).

You don't need to spend lots of money on security, just a few free security programs, keeping up to date, and smart browsing etc is all you need to stay safe. Use PayPal for online payments too, it's the safest there is (but then nothing is 100% safe, not even a cheque or debit card). Oh and don't keep your personal financial details such as credit card numbers, bank accound details, etc on your computer, if a hacker gets in (they can get into ANY computer if they really want to) they could steal your identity.|||go to PC world or similar and ask the people there. I have found them to be really honest and straight forward.|||norton internet security is the est it is top class, bt use it, yahoo use it, aol use it, it is one of the most globally recognised and protects millions of computers and email accounts all over the world.
