How to recover eMail password without security question?

My parents are trying to log into Yahoo Mail to upgrade but can't remember their password. (They usually access it via a mail application which enters the password for them).

They've tried to recover it but the security question of 'birthday' doesn't seem to accept either of their birthdays!

Is there any way to reset the password without knowing the security deails?|||Maybe they could open the mail program that has the password and find out what it is.

The thing about the security questions is the info has to be entered the exact way it was when they entered the info. Example 5/1/45 is NOT the same as 05/01/1945 also NOT the same May 1, 1945. Even though all of those different ways of typing the same date mean the exact same thing the security system doesn't read it that way. The point of the security question is to match the "characters" with the one's on file.

One time I changed my birthdate on file so it would be harder for someone, esp someone that knows me, to gain access to my account. I emailed Yahoo about changing my birthdate, from the same email address and had to reply and verify specific account info that they requested in the email.

It's been a long time since I've had problems with my password. On the password help page can you chose to reset the password or have it sent to the alternate address? Maybe try emailing Yahoo from another email and explain the circumstances. They deal with this all the time.

If they ask you to verify info like a Birthdate and one of your parents sends 5/01/1945 but it's really saved as 05/01/45 than of course the person can interpret that the info is correct. If they ask for personal info than provide info for both of your parents and make it clear that it has been so long since the account was last used that they can't remember the security info.

If all else fails they might have to create a new account. That's the joy of Yahoo it's so easy to get a new account!!
