Is it okay to send an email that has my social security number?

I need to send my information in request for a college transcript. I want to recieve it as soon as possible so I thought by emailing it would do, but the information I need to send requires my social security number and signature. Other alternative is mailing it... As told from the college, the ways are by email or by mail so what is best?|||send it by mail, its safer as it cnt be hacked
