Is confirming an email address a security feature of websites?

most websites that you sign up to ask for you to confirm your email address. Is this to help with security?|||No, it's not really for security. It's more to make sure that you're an actual person and not a bot that's spamming the website.

In the case of "I forgot my password," though, it is for security to make sure you're actually you and not someone else try to crack into your account.|||yes it fine, but i would always avoid making the password of ur website the same as the password as you email account..

you never really know now do you.....

have a nice day ;)|||I always thought it was a fail safe in case you typed your email address incorrectly the first time. If the two don't match, it gets flagged up as an error.|||yes.

Makes sure haven't provided a fake email and you are serious.

My old favorite fake?

webmaster@127.0.0.1

many sites took that kind of junk.|||It's making sure the owner of the address validates he is joining a site.|||Yes

but they can also use it to spam your email with junk. So its up to you.
